FLASHBACK FRIDAY: A ‘Foxy’ relic of a bygone era

Rarely seen without a chaw protruding from his cheek, White Sox legend Nellie Fox was a perfect fit to “plug” chewing tobacco.

This advertisement, which a co-worker gave to me for Christmas some years ago, is from the 1950s when the future Hall of Fame second baseman was at the height of his career.

Tobacco advertising has long been a thing of the past in baseball. Thanks to MLB’s latest CBA with the players, it appears chewing tobacco will be, too.
