From being drafted in round No. 38 to having his jersey retired!
The White Sox picked Mark Buehrle in the 38th round of the June 1998 draft.
Less than two years later, he was in the bigs to stay!
On June 24, the Sox will retire Buehrle’s No. 56.
FYI: The players drafted in a lower round and signed by the Sox to play for the Sox than Buehrle were Chris Tremie (39th round, 1992), Mario Valdez (48th round, 1993) and Taylor Thompson (44th round, 2009)
