SOX SPRING OPENER: SOME NUGGETS

A few nuggets heading into the White Sox Cactus League Opener:

*FAMILIAR FOE: The Sox are opening their Cactus League slate against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with whom they share a facility in Glendale, Ariz., for the seventh consecutive season. … The teams have alternated wins so the Sox are due for one today.

*ALL RIGHT: Carson Fulmer is the first right-hander to start the Sox spring training opener since Dylan Axelrod in 2013.

*ROOK! Fulmer is the first rookie to start the Sox spring curtain-raiser since Clayton Richard in 2009.

*HE’S GREEN: Fulmer is the least experienced White Sox spring training opening day starter in terms of appearances since Jack McDowell in 1988. … Fulmer has eight big league outings (all in relief) while McDowell had four when he started the 1988 Grapefruit League premiere. … Fulmer’s 11.1 innings are the fewest for a Sox spring opener starter since at least 1977.

*BADNESS: The Sox are 6-14 in Cactus League openers since moving to Arizona in 1997 (played a split squad in 2004)
