Who says the White Sox are the Second City’s second team?
When the Chicago Tribune asked fans to pick Chicago’s greatest baseball team in 2016, only one player from the city’s National League franchise made the cut.
And that one N.L. rep — Ron Santo — ended his career with the Sox.
The team was Frank Thomas at first, Nellie Fox at second, Santo at third, Luke Appling at shortstop, Ron Kittle, Jim Landis and Harold Baines in the outfield, Carlton Fisk at catcher, Ted Lyons the starting pitcher, Hoyt Wilhelm the relief pitcher, and Al Lopez the manager.
